RD = Registered Dietitian
LD = Licensed Dietitian
CD = Certified Dietitian
The last two indicate an additional state licensure/certification, but not all states require it; generally, someone with an RD meets the state standard. The licensure avoids differentiating between licensed and unlicensed nutritionists. In many states, it is legal to give nutrition advice without any credential. In other states, it is prohibited.
